Jazziz
Buoyed by the sterling rhythm section of Mulgrew
Miller on piano. Peter Washington on bass, and Jeff Hirshfield on drums,
alto saxophonist Jim Snidero continues to establish himself as a confident
stylist with some definite bop-based ideas of his own. Storm Rising
(Ken) is his latest showcase. The veteran of Toshiko Akiyoshi's big band
leans towards the Jazz Messenger school of hard bop. Which more often
than not provides the ideal vehicle for his rapid-fire, full-bodied alto
runs. Storm Rising doesn't break and new conceptual ground, but
it does capture four atists making solid, and at times inspired music.
